How it feels to write a book

Norah, 7-year old co-author of BIG FEET little feet, met with me for an interview. Okay, well, I'm her grandmother—soooo—we were actually hanging out and I asked her if she would mind doing an interview. After explaining what that meant (lol), she was down for it, so we chatted.

In this interview, you will

  • learn about her surprising and candid feelings about co-authoring,
  • discover who she wants to read her book to, and
  • find out what kind of surgeon (yes surgeon!) she wants to be when she grows up.

You'll also discover the latest book project she's working on and get to know her a little more.

Carrie Glenn interviews Norah below:

GM (Grandmother): How does it feel to write a book?

N (Norah): I don't feel like I wrote much of it.

GM: Did you help with a lot of the sentences?

N: Did I?

GM: Well, out of 445 words, you sure came up with a lot of them! Doesn't that count?

N: I think so.

GM: And who do you want to read this to when it's published?

N: My cousins.

GM: And how many cousins do you have?

N: Um, (counting on her fingers) 5 right now but I'm going to have a 6th.

GM: You're going to have a 6th soon?

N: My nana was talking on the phone with Uncle Joe and he said it could come anytime, really!

GM: And what is his name? Or is it a she?

N: His name, I think, is David. And it's a boy.

GM: And can you tell me your other cousins' names and ages?

N: Izzy is almost 3, Rinoa just turned 1, Steven is 0, not sure exactly how many months he is.

GM: Is he less than 1?

N: Yes.

GM: And the others?

N: Quinn is 1, and Theo was just born. And David is coming.

GM: Anybody else? Like any other little children in your life you'd like to read it to? Like family friends?

N: EJ, Davide, Daisy (Wesley's little sister), Desmond, Danny, and Leon.

GM: Sounds like you have a lot of reading to do!

N: I do.

GM: What other hobbies do you enjoy?

N: I like to do art and math and reading. They're my favorited subjects.

GM: Do you have any favorite games?

N: I like to play with my fairy friends and play games we made up.

GM: What do you want to be when you grow up?

N: A surgeon of some sort. 'Cause I always make up my mind, "Am I gonna be this kind of surgeon? Am I gonna be this kind of surgeon?"

GM: What is your favorite book?

N: Well, I'm in the middle of "Caddie Woodlawn" and I really like it so it might be my favorite book.

GM: Are you excited to be a real author?

N: I like writing books, so, yeah.

GM: Oh. Are you writing your next book already?

N: Yes, it's called "Julie's Horses."

GM: Wonderful! Well, we can't wait to hear more about it. Thank you and we'll do another interview soon, okay?

N: Yes. That's fine. You're welcome!

AND... there you have it! Little Miss Norah's very first interview. She loved watching me type all her answers and when we had to add a couple when not at the computer, she was not pleased. I think, perhaps, she felt excited when it felt "official." Note for next time!

Keep watching for our first contest!

Love,

Norah and Grandmother
